ECOtality installs Blink home EV charging stations in US

ABR Staff Writer Published 24 March 2011

ECOtality, a developer of electric transportation and storage technologies, has unveiled plans to install its Blink Level 2 residential charging station at residences across Tucson city in the US state of Arizona.

ECOtality, as project manager, will install Blink electric vehicle (EV) chargers in homes throughout EV project regions nationwide to support the launch of more than 8,300 EVs.

The Blink Level 2 residential charger has an intuitive set of features, including a seven-inch color touch-screen control panel and an easily configurable design.

As part of the installation, the company will monitor the energy usage and output of charging stations to determine a viable method for mass adoption of EVs and empower the smart grid.

The smart Blink home charger provides increased cost-savings through improved power management.

The EV project is funded by the US Department of Energy through a federal stimulus grant of $114.8m secured from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The project will also secure $230m in private investment.

ECOtality also plans to install more Blink Level 2 pedestal and Blink DC fast chargers over the next few weeks.
