Daimler completes $500m supply deal with NorthStar Battery

ABR Staff Writer Published 13 September 2016

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) and NorthStar Battery have entered into a 7 year agreement, where the latter will supply Ultra High Performance Pure Lead AGM batteries as part of improvements to the next generation Cascadia truck.

NorthStar is also available as an extended life option on the majority of DTNA platforms creating a strategic partnership valued at up to $500m.

NorthStar is a world leader in battery technology, having developed the highest output batteries for the heavy duty truck market. The current market is driving the industry to manufacture batteries that provide higher capacity, longer life, and greater reliability while reducing maintenance costs.

The agreement with Daimler makes NorthStar batteries a standard on all ParkSmart optioned trucks as well as a standard option on most other Freightliner, Western Star, Freightliner Chassis and Thomas Bus factory orders. NorthStar is now also available from DTNA’s extensive network of dealers throughout North America.

NorthStar Group CEO Hans Lidén said: “With increased government no-idle regulation worldwide the heavy duty truck industry is faced with enormous power demand challenges that only a few battery manufacturers can meet.

"We are very pleased to have partnered with the industry leader Daimler, to provide a North America-wide solution with our Ultra High Performance Pure Lead AGM technology.”

The agreement with NorthStar will make Daimler´s offer on the market place even more competitive.

DTNA is leading the way by being the first to market in offering its customers an Ultra High Performance Pure Lead AGM power solution as a standard offering for ParkSmart models.

This provides a real advantage to fleets by reducing down time and operating costs. Customers trading in trucks every four years may never have to replace a battery during the ownership cycle of the truck.

NorthStar received worldwide approval to supply batteries to Daimler Original Equipment platforms. Focusing primarily with DTNA, NorthStar underwent Daimler’s very comprehensive world-class audit and testing process in competition with other well-known brands to gain approval.
